Liferoot Creative Process - How We Formulate New Products

One of my favorite things to do at Liferoot is to create new products.

I see or hear of a need through you the customer, or I discover a need as I am seeing clients, or detect a need in myself and my sensitive skin and body. As most of you know, I battled rosacea for a long time, as well as my daughter having issues when she was a baby. These needs gave birth to Liferoot today. :)

Once I envision a product, I start brainstorming and the notebook comes out. I am very tactile being (the one that loves paper books, writing my schedule on a calendar..etc), so the act of writing helps me to form my thoughts around the vision of the product. Several scribbles later, I will have a working draft of what I am trying to create.

Then comes the formulation.

This can be a short or long process, sometimes I get it just right, or sometimes it takes several tries and months.

Things that can factor formulating products are:

  • Weather - especially for the botanicals being used…do they need to be used fresh or dried?

  • Sourcing - Can I find the ingredients I need now…or do I need to grow them?

  • Demand - Is there a demand for this product? Who would benefit from this?

Most of the time, I am like a mad hatter in my apothecary, usually making a mess, finding the right ratios and formulas. Once I get it right, I usually have a dance party to celebrate.

Now comes the fun part…. Offering it to you! I usually run test groups (reach out if you ever want to be a part of one!) and make sure the majority benefited from this product. If so, and the testimonials are positive, then we move forward.

In the past few years, production can be slower as things don’t move as quickly in the world. We honor that and go with the flow. :) We get the labels made, the product pretty and packaged, and get it out on the way for you all to see!

Rest assured, after all of this, we feel energized, because making products that can help you is what we are passionate about.

Sending love and thankfulness for letting us share our creative process!
