THE BEAUTIFUL BIOME.

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE? IF YOU HAVE SOME SKIN PROBLEMS THEN YOU MIGHT WANNA PAY ATTENTION.

The skin is our first line of protection against the elements.

HOW COULD PROBIOTICS BE HELPFUL FOR SKINCARE?

GROWING EVIDENCE SUGGESTS THAT BLASTING BACTERIA OFF OUR BODIES IS THE WRONG APPROACH. ALL THE SOAPS & SANITIZERS MIGHT BE DOING US A DISSERVICE.

On a very basic level, skin serves as a natural barrier against dirt and pollutants in the air and as such, goes through a lot, maintaining a key moisture balance, fighting off predators such as bacteria and viruses. “Beauty begins in the gut.” Often this conversation revolves around the importance of consuming probiotic supplements and probiotic-rich fermented foods (like kombucha) to help us maintain a thriving gut microbiome, balance yeast, and efficiently digest food.

And probiotics (this goes for both nutrition and skin care) are all about restoring balance to the sanitary lifestyle we have. Additionally, probiotics have an anti-inflammatory effect, and can also act as antimicrobials, which can alleviate skin issues like acne and rosacea — two concerns that can be a result of bacterial or yeast overgrowth. In a nutshell, it's really all about the "good" bacteria canceling out the not-so-great bacteria.

Although it may seem counterintuitive to put bacteria on skin, probiotics can improve the appearance of skin on several fronts. Not unlike our gastrointestinal tract, skin has its own beneficial microbiome; it helps maintain skin’s health, clarity, resilience, and suppleness. The good bacteria in skin’s microbiome also battles beauty busting bacteria—including P. acnes, the dreaded rascals behind breakouts—by producing their own anti-microbial peptides. Probiotics help strengthen the skin’s barrier and offer protection from inflammation-causing allergens and environmental stressors. Inflammation causing acne and rosacea can be tempered through probiotics because they stabilize the lining of the intestinal walls and limit the growth of inflammatory-inducing microorganisms.

Through recent studies, The American Academy of Dermatology has found that topical application also decreases skin sensitivity and redness, and can result in a reduced appearance of fine lines. Other research has also found promise in dermatis, eczema, rash care and burn care.

SKINFOODIE HOPES THAT MORE RESEARCH AND STUDIES WILL BE DONE TO MAKE PROBIOTIC CARE MAINSTREAM. IN THE MEANTIME, ALL OF OUR PRODUCTS DO NOT COMPETE WITH THE SKIN BIOME.

Moon Phase Skin Care

In ancient times communities centrally shared in the cyclical changes the moon, seasons and solstices offered. Individuals practiced certain moon phase rituals embracing the knowledge of the Earth's vast energies with respect and celebration for each stage that was before them. Man still relies on the moon as the teller of time, seasons, phases of the earth (tide rising and falling), phases in our bodies (women's periods), and to farmers as to when to plant and harvest crops. Essentially the moon participates in the ebb and flow of growth on earth.
